11-Jul, Finals:
Top seeds take NSC titles
Denmark's
Line Hansen raised her tally of NSC series titles to four as
she defeated local favourite Delia Arnold in straight games
in the women's final at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil.
Mike Corren was unable to emulate the Dane's feat though. He
too was looking for a fourth NSC title but despite taking the first
game the experienced Australian ultimately lost in four to
Pakistan's top seed Shahid Zaman.

10-Jul, Semis:
Arnold advances to NSC final
Delia
Arnold despatched another higher-seeded player as she advanced
to the final of the Super Satellite #2 at the National Squash Centre
in Kuala Lumpur.
Having beaten the second seed yesterday, Arnold ensured there would
be a home finalist as she overcame fourth seed Alana Miller in just
over an hour of play. Her opponent in the final will be top seed
Line Hansen, who wasted no time in despatching Lim Woke Yah as
her quest for a fourth NSC title continues.
The men's final will be contested by the top seeds - Shahid Zaman
continued his run of quick victories as compatriot Arshad Iqbal
Burkhi was forced to withdraw at one game all, suffering from cramp.
His opponent will be Mike Corren, the second-seeded
Australian who is also aiming for a fourth NSC series title.

09-Jul, Quarters:
Delia delights in
KL
Local
favourite Delia Arnold created the biggest upset of the
quarter-finals at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil when she
ousted second seed Joshna Chinappa in four games.
"I played against her a few times at junior level but lost all the
matches.
I played pretty well this time and was confident of beating her
after winning the first two sets. It was a good victory for me.”
said Delia.
Arnold now faces fourth seed Alana Miller for a place in the
final while top seed Line Hansen - winner of three NSC titles
in 2007 - meets Lim Woke Yah who will be hoping to make it an
all-Malaysian final.
Men's top seed Shahid Zaman's attacking skills were no doubt
on display as he beat young Australian Zac Alexander in four games
which lasted just 22 minutes. A Pakistani finalist is guaranteed as
Zaman will face Arshad Iqbal Burkhi in the semi-finals.
Burkhi was 10/5 up in the fifth against Matthew Karwalski when the
Australian slipped and was forced to retire.
Hopes for a home finalist rest with Nafiizwan Adnan, who
takes on second seed Mike Corren in the semis.
08-Jul, Round One:
All but one seed through in KL
Fourteen of the sixteen seeds made it safely through to the
quarter-finals of the Super Satellite #2 at the Malaysian National
Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil, but it was far from plain sailing for
most of them.
Malaysia's Siti Munirah Jusoh created the only upset of the
day as she beat third seed Orla Noom in four games. While top seed
Line Hansen won easily enough, most of the other seeds had to
work hard for their wins, none more so than India's second seed
Joshna Chinappa who had to fight back from 2/1 down.
It was a similar story in the men's event, with only two of the
seeded players - Matthew Karwalski and Arshad Iqbal Burkhi
- managing to despatch their opponents in straight games. Top seeds
Shahid Zaman and Mike Corren both dropped their
opening games before fighting back to win in four, while third seed
Steve Finitsis fell at the hands of qualifier Aqib Hanif. |
