25-Nov, Final:
[5] Andrew Wagih (Egy) bt [1] Eddie Charlton (Eng)
11/8, 11/13, 11/6, 9/11, 11/6
(55m)
Just writing en-route home from Zurich. The final was good with
both of us playing reasonably well but having won none of my
previous matches in three games this was always going to be
tough. Andrew played very well and attacked me throughout...he
is a very good player especially at just 17....not that it makes
me feel any better.
Just a further message to thank Kengen and the Parklands club
for doing such a great job and making all of us very welcome and
also to Gakuo who did a great job organising the event.

23-Nov, Quarters:
Tough for top seeds
in Kenya ...
Eddie Charlton reports
It
was a day of mixed fortunes for the top four seeds at the
Parklands club.
Karim Samy was first to progress against Pakistani Niaz Muhammed.
Having lost the first game 11-9 Karim was warming up to start
the second when his opponent was forced to concede due and
injury he had suffered in yesterdays play which ment karim had a
rest in preparation for tonight's semi-final.
The only Iranian in the draw was on the show court with the only
other Pakistani left in the draw Mamoon Ur Rashid, again more
tough calls for the refs as both players seamed to get in each
others way which took the match to a scrappy finish, Rashid
eventually prevailing 11-3 in the fourth.
The match of the night was my good pal and personal adviser
Lewis Walter against the talented young Egyptian Andrew Wagih.
This match was full of unbelievable retrieving from both players
with good sportsmanship shown throughout. Andrew took the first
two games which were very tight with Lewis taking the third. The
fourth was nip and tuck, so so close!
My match was to follow on the show court and I don't think I've
felt that nervous watching a match before!!!!How was my match
going to be as entertaining as this?!?!?! At 10-10 in the fourth
I had to leave as I couldn't take anymore of the action! After
four great rallies much appreciated by the crowd Wagih had won
it....what a great match! Could anything top that??.......
No....but we tried. The final match of the evening was between
myself and Hardeep Reel who lived in England and trained with me
and Lewis at the park earlier in the year. Having lost the first
11-9 I changed my tactics slightly (thanks to Lewis) and managed
to Reel Hardeep in (no pun intended) and won the next three in
slightly more comfortable fashion.
The Semis start at 5.30 tonight.
Au Revoir

22-Nov, Round One:
English youngsters survive
tough openers in Kenya ...
Eddie Charlton reports
It
was a night of tense squash with a lot of contact and difficult
decisions for the refs to make. The first matches on were Mamoon
Ur Rashid against local hero Prince Makuka, like most of the
matches during the evening it went to five with Rashid taking it
11-5 in the fifth to progress to the quarters.
On the other court there was a highly contested battle between
Egyptian Basem Makram and Pakistani Niaz Muhammed. The match was
full of sceptical movement and tough calls for the ref (whom i
must add did a great job) with Niaz prevailing 12-10 in the
fifth.
Next onto the courts were Seyed Saneaa and local Raj Baines and
yet another five game thriller!!!!With Seyed proving that little
bit steadier at crucial points, but nonetheless a great effort
from the local player. On the main court Karim Samy was wasting
no time in despatching his opponent and did so in relaxed,
skilful fashion in three games.
The 7pm matches got on slightly later thanplanned but were over
reasonably quickly with Hardeep Reel playing calm, simple squash
to pull through in 3 against Kabamba and Andrew Wagih played
extremely confidently pushing his opponent into all four corners
in devastating fashion.
The final matches of the evening involved the only English in
the draw, Lewis and myself. Lewis played local player Leon Keya
and won in a comfortable 4 game encounter which the crowd
thoroughly enjoyed, and I came through in 5 against Pakistani
Nazeem Khan having been 2-0 down.
That rounded off the evening's squash with matches commencing
this evening from 5.30pm,
Ciao for now ...

English youngsters top
Kenya draw ...
Got here safe and sound arrived at the hotel late Saturday
evening. Practiced with Lewis for the last couple of days trying
to get used to the speed of the ball and how hard it is to
breathe.
Qualifying has finished with 4 of the local players progressing
into the main draw. Lewis and I play at 7.45pm tomorrow evening.
We'll try to keep you updated as best we can ...
