27-May, Finals:
Five-game finals in Perth

Australian Junior Champion Ryan Cuskelly won his second PSA title in three weeks when he upset top seeded New Zealander Martin Knight in the final of the City of Perth International Challenge on Sunday.

The 19-year-old from Evans Head in northern New South Wales won a tough five-game match to add the title to the Top End Open he won in Darwin earlier this month.

He had earlier beaten fellow junior star Zac Alexander of Caboolture, just north of Brisbane, in the semi-finals.

Queensland’s Lisa Camilleri upset top seeded Victorian Amelia Pittock in the final of the women’s event.

The 24-year-old North Queenslander took out her first Women’s International Squash Players’ Association event when she beat Pittock.

In a good tournament for Camilleri, she knocked out fellow Queenslander and second seed Peta Hughes in the semi-finals, while Pittock accounted for Donna Urquhart of NSW.

Next generation in semi-finals

Andrew Dent reports

The next generation of Australian men’s squash stars will meet in the semi-finals of the City of Perth International Challenge when Ryan Cuskelly of New South Wales takes on Queensland’s Zac Alexander on Sunday.

Cuskelly is the reigning Australian Junior Champion while Alexander is the second ranked junior in the country. They will clash in Sunday’s semi-finals, with the winner to take on either top seeded Kiwi Martin Knight or eighth seed Kristen Johnson of Scotland in the final later that day.

Cuskelly, the tournament second seed, beat Victorian qualifier Steven Robinson to continue his recent run of good form.

The 19-year-old from northern New South Wales won his first main tour title when he took out the Top End Open in Darwin two weeks ago and followed that up by making the semi-finals of last week’s City of Joondalup Open.

Alexander, from Caboolture just north of Brisbane, upset well-credentialled Victorian Joseph Desira to make the semis.

In the women’s event, Lisa Camilleri beat fellow Queenslander Peta Hughes to set up a final against top seeded Victorian Amelia Pittock. Pittock won in Joondalup last week and reached her second final in a row with a win over New South Wales’ Donna Urquhart.
