KRAKOW REPORTS ... round one
[6] Andre Holderegger (Sui)
bt
[Q] Morten Sorensen (Den)
11/4, 11/5, 11/7 (35m) |
Morten,
coming off a tough last round qualifying, was slotted to play Andre,
which on paper could of been a contest. However it proved not to be
the case as Andre played controlling squash right from the start using
all four corners, pushing Sorensen around Sorenson the court.
Credit to Sorenson for the effort, however it is tough when you are
only on the retrieving side of the rally. Holdregger took the match
comfortably 3/0
[3] Luca Mastrostefano (Ita)
bt Arthur Gaskin (Irl)
5/11, 14/16, 11/7, 11/9, 11/8 (66m) |
Gaskin,
a big improver in all aspects of his game, took a commanding 2/0 lead
and was ahead 6/1 in the third game, moving well and moving the
sluggish looking Luca around even better.
The match became very closely contested at this point, however two
very disputable no-lets against Gaskin at crucial times of the match
seemed to sway the match in Luca's direction (credit to Gaskin for his
professional composure to these decisions).
The match went the distance, finishing 11/9 to Mastrostefano in the
fifth followed by strong ovation from the crowd!
[2] Bradley Hindle (Aus)
bt [LL] Philip
Nightingale (Eng)
11/2, 11/6, 11/5 (31m) |
Hindle,
coming off strong performances in South America, was looking to
maintain his good run in Poland.
Although lucky loser Nightingale played a strong match with some
delicate drop shots to to keep Hindle moving to the front, a lack of
patience and perhaps a few wrong choices in shots lead to a 3/0 win to
Hindle.
