11/13 11/4 11/9 11/7

TWO IN A ROW....

Great performance by both players with Jan having that little extra energy in the end to take the title. The crowed was loving every bit of it and can not wait for next year, when the tournament and the players will be back again.

Final

03-Feb, Semis:

[Q] Chris Ryder (Eng) bt [8] Darren Lewis (Eng)                          11/8 12/10 11/7

QUALIFIERS IN THE FINAL

The first players on where Chris Ryder and Darren Lewis, with Chris managing to take all three very close games after some fine squash from both players, which kept the crowed at the edge of their seat for the whole match.

Then on went Jan Koukal and Romain Tenant. The Frenchman seemed tired and happy with his place in semifinal and Jan got comfortable lead 2/0.

But Romain showed big heart to win the third game after saving 3 matchballs and pushed Jan very hard in the fourth. But the czech made it through to the final and we find ourselves with two qualifiers in the final!!!!!!!!!

JESSE OUT...

Number one seeded from Zimbabwe Jesse Engelbrecht went down to Chris Ryder in 3 games. The Englishman showed more skills and kept Jesse under pressure for the whole match, which got him the well deserved win.

The young welshman Rob Suterland started well against Darren Lewis and took the first game in tie-break. Darren stayed calmer at the crucial points in the next 3 and advanced to the semifinal.

Frenchman Romain Tenant had full control of the match against the Austrian number 1. The French currently studying in Stockholm outplayed Fuchs and caused another upset.

Masterostefano started strong against tired looking Koukal and took a good lead in the opening game, but it was the Italian, who started to show signs of tiredness. Jan kept the pace high and took full advantage of it.

01-Feb, final qualifying:
Koukal on course in Prague
Honza Koukal reports ...

Final qualifying in Prague saw Kristen Johnsen  fight hard to win his match after Aqeel Rehman came back from 2/0 down, but the Scot stayed cool in the final game.

Sam Atkins started well against Welshman Jethro Binns and took the first game, but Jethro turned it around and got the next three to earn place in the main draw.

Czech favourite Jan Koukal is still on course after taking down young Robbie Temple in match full of crazy rallies, but Chris Ryder ended the run of the other local hopeful Jaroslav Cech in three games, playing fine squash and using his lovely skills.

The British qualifying contingent, hot from the Internet Cafe ...

Chris Ryder bt Jaroslav Cech
   11/2, 11/6, 11/7

"It was good to get a chance to play a match on the court and get used to the pace of it. The draw could have been a lot worse with Koukal floating around in there ...

Chris Ryder

Kristen Johnson bt Aqeel Rehman  11/5, 11/7, 8/11, 7/11, 11/5

"I was in control until the third when it seemed I couldn't hit a barn door with my backhand dropshot. From then on it became a dog eat dog, dog fight! I managed to pull it together in the fifth and got away from him."

Kristen Johnsen

Jethro Binns bt Sam Atkins
   9/11, 11/2, 11/9, 11/5

"That was a bit of a slow start, but it got better in the second. It was ok, the courts are fast and bouncy, and now typically I have to play Darren Lewis after our marathon in Hithercroft two weeks ago ... we'll see how it goes.

Jethro Binns

Jan Koukal bt Robbie Temple 11/4, 11/7, 11/5

"What a rubbish draw!!!

"That was really bad though, I felt terrible, I couldn't hit the ball properly, and he just picked everything up.

Robbie Temple
Local Hopes High in Prague

Local hopes were kept high after the first round of qualification when Jan Koukal beat Czech junior champion Petr Martin, who is based in England in straight games and Jaroslav Cech surprisingly outplayed Scottish national team player in four games to delight of Czech crowed. Martin Stepan was forced to retire after second game against keen Aqeel Rehman after having serious pain in his back.
