15-Jan, Final:
Aziz gets his revenge
in Barcelona final

Sweden's Badr Abdel Aziz made up for losing in the final twelve months ago by winning the 2006 Rocafort Open title, coming back from 2/1 down against England's Chris Ryder in the final in Barcelona.

Chris RyderFourth seed Aziz was 2/0 down against Frenchman Mathieu Castagnet in the semi-finals. But the 25-year-old from Stockholm fought back to win 3/2 to earn a place in his third PSA final.

His unseeded opponent had reached the final after upsetting second seed Ahmed Mohsen Hassaan in the first round. The 25-year-old Englishman from Aylesbury disappointed the local crowds in the semi-finals when he beat Barcelona's Oriol Salvia in a four-game semi-final.

But Badr Abdel Aziz had the upper hand in the final, winning 11/9, 8/11, 8/11, 11/7, 11/7 to claim his second successive PSA title.

14-Jan, Quarters:
Aziz squeezes into Barcelona final

Dani Ramirez reports

It was a good day for Sweden's Badr Abdel Aziz, as he saved match balls in both his quarter and semi-final matches - both against French opposition - to reach the final of the VIII Rocafort Open in Barcelona.

Chris RyderIn the morning match Aziz overcame Fabien Verseille in five games, and went on to beat a second young Frenchman, Mathieu Castagnet, also in five games, after a tie-break in the decider.

It was Castagnet's second marathon of the day, after he saved match balls on the way to defeating Spain's Constantino Casas 13/11 in the fifth in their quarter-final.

In the final Aziz will meet England's Chris Ryder, who despatched New Zealand's Sam Atkins in the quarters before removing Spanish qualifier Oriol Salvia in the semi-finals.

13-Jan, Round One:
Night of Upsets in Barcelona

Dani Ramirez reports

The seeds were decimated in the first round of the VIII Open de Rocafort in Barcelona, with just three left to contest the quarter/finals, all in the bottom half of the draw.

Tarragona/based Constantino Casas created the biggest upset of the day as the local qualifier beat Italy's top seed Luca Mastostefano in four games, and fellow qualifier and Barcelona resident Orial Salvia doubled Spanish interest as he beat sixth seed Yann Perrin.

Casas faces France's fifth seed Mathieu Castagnet for a place in the semi/finals while Salvia meets England's Nick Wall, who scored a narrow win over third/seeded Andras Torok.

There's a second Englishman in the seedless bottom half / Chris Ryder taking out second seed Ahmed Mohsen Hassaan to set up a meeting with yet another giant/killer, New Zealand's Sam Atkins.

In the only quarter/final between two seeds, Sweden's Badr Abdel Aziz meets Frenchman Fabien Verseille.
