Golan & Serme
reign in Spain
Spanish number one Borja Golan delighted the crowd at the
Shopping Center Area Central in Santiago as he claimed the 17th, and
one of the biggest, titles of his career.
Having already beaten top seed LJ Anjema in the semi-finals, Golan
took on second seed Stewart Boswell in the final, the pair's first
meeting
The Australian had reached the final without dropping a game, but
Golan soon dented that record as he took the first game. Boswell
levelled, but couldn't stop Golan taking the next two to claim a
popular home victory.
In the women's final France's top seed Camille Serme, the
three-time European Junior Champion, collected her second senior
trophy, retaining the title she won here last year, with a
straight-game victory over surprise finalist Lauren Selby.

Home hero Golan
reaches Santiago final
Spanish squash fans will be treated to a dream men's Santiago Open
final after hometown hero Borja Golan fought back from two
games down to upset Dutch favourite Laurens Jan Anjema in the
semi-finals at Shopping Center Area Central in Santiago de
Compostela.
Reproducing the same form which saw him earn a surprise final outing
in Paris and a second round place in last month's World Open in
England, Golan thrilled his local fans by beating world No14 Anjema
in an 80-minute marathon.
It was the 25-year-old fourth seed from Santiago's first Tour win
over the Dutchman in four meetings.
Golan, who reached a career-high world No16 ranking this month, now
goes on to face Stewart Boswell in the final. The No2 seed
from Australia despatched surprise opponent Miguel Angel Rodriguez,
the fifth seed from Colombia in straight games..
Boswell, who will be appearing in his 30th PSA final, will be
meeting Golan for the first time.
The women's event will also feature a surprise final after England's
seventh seed Lauren Selby battled to a semi-final win over
fifth-seeded compatriot Emma Chorley.
Selby, 24, from Essex, had earlier upset second seed Laura Mylotte
in a five-game quarter-final.
Now in her maiden WISPA final, Selby will face France's top seed
Camille Serme, who put paid to an all-English final when she
ended Victoria Lust's brave run, beating the qualifier in straight
games reach her fifth WISPA final.

06-Nov, Quarters:
Rodriguez outlasts Pilley
The quarter-finals of the Santiago Open saw Colombia's Miguel Angel
Rodriguez cause a minor upset as he ousted third seed Cameron
Pilley, but it took the fifth seed over an hour and a half to do so
as he won 11/9 in the fifth.
Rodriguez now meets another Australian in second seed Stewart
Boswell, who beat Daryl Selby in straight games.
The other men's semi-final will see top seed Laurens Jan Anjema take
on Spanish favourite Borja Golan.
In the women's event top seed Camille Serme won her all-French match
with Maud Duplomb and now meets qualifier Victoria Lust, who
continued her run of upset results as she beat Olga Ertlova in
straight games.
Whether Lust wins or not, an English finalist is guaranteed after
Lauren Selby overcame second seed Laura Mylotte in five games and
Emma Chorley beat third seed Deon Saffery in four. |

05-Nov,Round One:
Rosner advances in Santiago
The first round in Santiago saw all the men's matches on the glass
court, with all but one seed progressing to the quarter-finals. The
exception was Germany's Simon Rosner, who came from two games
down to beat sixth-seeded Italian Davide Bianchetti in the longest
match of the day.
Rosner now faces Spain's Borja Golan for a place in the semi-finals.
"I
played really well
and I'm
really happy to get
through, as it is my first time beating Davide
- the last two
times I
played him I
lost 3/0 -
and
to
be in the Quarters of a 3
Star Event.
"I
really worked hard the last weeks and month with my new coach Wael
El Batran, which made the big difference this time.
I was a
lot more patient
and I'm
a
lot fitter these days.
"Hope
I
can also do well against Borja,
my teammate from
the
German
leagues."
A surprise semi-finalist is guaranteed
in the women's event, with giant-killers Victoria Lust and
Olga Ertlova set to meet each other after ousting the third and
sixth seeds, respectively.
Qualifying complete in Santiago
The second edition of the Santigo Open sees all the men's matches
being played on the glass court, which is a rare treat form some of
the qualifiers, and a real treat for Spanish fans.
Two Frenchmen made it through to the main draw as Romain Tenant
despatched Denmark's Morten Sorensen in straight games and
Mathieu Castagnet did the same to compatriot Greg Marche, the
European Junior Champion.
Germany's Jens Schoor prevented a hat-trick of French
victories as he overcame Yann Perrin in four games, but the longest
match of the day saw Ireland's Arthur Gaskin come from two
games down to beat qualifying top seed Bradley Hindle, the
Amsterdam-based Australian.
"Tough
loss tonight, I was up 2/0 but not really that comfortable and lost
it from there, these things happen. Credit to Arthur for sticking in
there and having that Irish fight!
"To be honest I've had a terrible last 7 weeks with a lung infection
and then a hamstring injury, actually not much has gone to plan but
that’s the way it goes ... it happens. I'm positive about it, and I
know it's just a matter of few things that I couldn’t control off
the court."
