Crawford keeps his title
as Frania limps out

Stewart Crawford retained his Scottish National title at Newlands in Glasgow with a straight-games win over Peter O'Hara in the final, but it was disappointment for Frania Gillen-Buchert who retired after the first game of the final, giving Claire Kidd the national title.

10-Feb-07:
Melvin makes the semis,
Frania survives, just ...

The Scottish National Championships are under way at Newlands in Glasgow, and it wasn't a good day for the top seeds as Harry Leitch went out to Graham Melvin in the men's quarters and Frania Gillen-Buchert found herself two games down to Caron Lawrie in the women's semi-finals.

In Sunday's men's semis Melvin faces Peter O'Hara, who himself put out third seed Alan Clyne, while defending champion Stewart Crawford, seeded two, meets Newlands' own Chris Small.

Despite that scare in the semis, Frania is one match away from retaining the title as she meets Clare Kidd, the second seed, in the women's final.

Women's Semis:
[1] Frania Gillen-Buchert bt Caron Lawrie   3/9, 6/9, 9/4, 9/4, 9/4
[2] Claire Kidd bt [4] Katie Buchanan         9/1, 7/9, 9/7, 9/3

Men's Quarters:
Graham Melvin bt [1] Harry Leitch      11/5, 5/2 rtd
Peter O'Hara bt [3] Alan Clyne           11/9, 11/7, 8/11, 1/11, 11/6

[4] Chris Small bt Jamie Macaulay      11/6, 11/7, 11/5
[2] Stuart Crawford bt Neil Frankland  4/11, 11/8, 11/4, 14/12

Close call for Frania

Crawford on course
