Egypt expects ... and
delivers
Day
two, and the action moved to the spectacular Soho Square
Glass Court, with two Egyptian youngsters guaranteed to make
the main draw, and a clean sweep of four a definite possibility.
Heba El Torky is Egypt's top junior, and top seed for
qualifying, but she was pushed to extra points in the fifth last
night, and the ever-improving Kanzy El Dafrawy pushed her
all the way again, but this time Heba couldn't escape as Kanzy
won a tough, tense encounter.
Heba's younger sister Nouran El Torky recorded a fine
upset win yesterday, and did the same again today against Sara El Noamany.
World junior finalist Nour El Tayeb took on WISPA's only
Russian member Irina Assal, who only took up the game in
her twenties and was always likely to have her hands full with 'never
say die' Nour.
After all that, Egypt still had World Junior Champion Nour
El Sherbini to call on, and she faced Kiwi Kylie Lindsay,
the qualifying second seed. Kylie stayed in touch for much of
the match, but in the end errors cost her as Sherbini went
through to complete a clean sweep for Egypt.

(Egy)
11/5, 11/5, 15/13 (37m)
"When I was
5/1 up in the third, I remembered losing to her from 2-0 here
last year, so I told myself to think of the next point, the next
point, not about this match or the last match.
"She came back, but I just kept telling myself come on, close it
out. I'm so pleased to win after last year, this will do my
ranking good too.
"I'm really enjoying it here in Sharm ... I may go to the sea
tomorrow!"

Kanzy El Dafrawy (Egy) bt
Heba El Torky (Egy)
12/14, 11/4, 11/7, 8/11, 14/12 (73m)
"That
was my best match ever!
"I was actually a bit worried at the start, as last week in
Cairo she beat me 3/0 in about 25 minutes. I know she likes to
lob and drop so I focused myself to keep the pace very high, to
stop her doing that.
"When I was 2-1 up I kept thinking about the first, that I
should have won that and if I had I'd have already won. From
7-all in the fifth I said to myself no risky shots, just play it
very very safe, keeping it straight and into the corners.
"I wasn't tired physically, but my stress was making me tired, I
was killing myself on every ball. I'm proud of my game today, I
wanted to play my best and this match was my goal for the week."

Nour El Tayeb (Egy) bt Irina Assal (Rus)
11/5, 11/8, 11/7 (21m)

"It
wasn't my best squash, but I'd never played her before so wasn't
sure how to play, but I did enough and managed to stay ahead.
"I'm happy to be in the main draw, this is a big tournament for
me. I'll see who I get but all four are tough opponents, I'll
try to play my best and give them a hard time ..."

Nour El Sherbini
(Egy) bt Kylie Lindsay (Nzl)
11/6, 11/9, 11/7 (26m)
"That was a tough
match, she made me play higher up the court, and every time I
got one or two points ahead she would come back again.
"I played well today, I'm happy to win in three and I'm looking
forward to playing Jenny, I saw her play in Holland she's very
good, I hope we have a nice game ..."
