Just in time ... Steve Cubbins in Santa Cruz
Well, I ust arrived in Santa Cruz as the third qualifying final was
into its last few rallies, started updating the results as the final
match started, but it was curtailed by a knee injury to Rob
Sutherland, so I managed to see absolutely nothing of that one
either!
So, just few snippets today, sensible coverage will start
tomorrow ...
Tournament Director Jordi Bercedo conducts the draw
"I had a tough match last night, but I can't consider this a win.
It was just a clash of legs and something went under his knee - I
didn't even think we would touch otherwise I would have stopped, and
it felt like nothing. I feel so bad for him ..."
Johan Bouquet
"I found that
very tough, he's a tricky player and very hard to read at the front.
I don't think I was playing my best squash but I managed to play
well when it mattered which is always pleasing and I'm very glad to
get through.
"It was good to see St George's win last night without me - although
I haven't played too much this season as I've been away a lot. We
had a terrible start, so hopefully we can get a few more wins and
challenge for the playoffs ..."
Joe Lee
"One
day you can play well and the next you can be terrible, I'm just
glad I've been having a few good days recently - when I won the
African Open last week it was the first time I'd beaten Steve
Coppinger for quite a while.
"I set a few goals when I was younger and didn't reach them, I'm 26
now though, and I had a chat with Peter Barker a few weeks ago and
that sorted a few thing out in my head. I want to be able to play
like him and I made a few changes in my training which seem to be
working.
Clinton Leeuw
