Saint-Petersburg
The Russian Squash Federation and “Hypersquash” Sporting Club, with
the support of Sport Committee of St.-Petersburg Government and
Association of Multisports of Russia, staged the 8th
Saint-Petersburg Squash Open from the 3rd to 5th November 2006.
In Russia squash appeared at the end of the 1980s, and five
years ago the biggest squash-center in Russia - "Hypersquash"
club - opened in Saint-Petersburg. All the significant City,
National and International squash competitions in Russia now take
place at the club.

The Saint-Petersburg Squash Open is the most prestigious and
representative tournament in the former USSR territory. In the past
seven years of the tournament more than 500 players from 32
countries of the world and former republics of the USSR have
participated
Competitions are split in two categories - professional and amateur,
among men, women and juniors. All places are played and the
tournament gives the possibility to play enough and to enjoy squash.
The Championship of this year, besides the Russian sportsmen from
Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, Kaliningrad and Irkutsk has welcomed
players from Greece, Italy, Finland, Ukraine, Estonia and Latvia.
There were 63 participants: 43 men, 10 women, 10 juniors.
The prize fund 5,000 USD was provided by long-term partners of the
tournament – the Investment company 'Energocapital' and the Real
Estate company 'JP Business-centers'.
