Khan captures Sun & Surf
crown in Vancouver

America's Latasha Khan swept to victory in the Sun & Surf Jericho Squash Open after beating England's Emma Beddoes in the final at the Jericho Tennis Club in Vancouver, Canada.

It was a match too far for the 21-year-old sixth seed from Warwick, who had upset two higher-seeded players to achieve her maiden appearance in a WISPA Tour final.

But top seed Khan's experience shone through as she clinched  victory in 37 minutes.
It was a case of 'third time lucky' in North America this year for the 34-year-old from Seattle who finished as runner-up in the Southport Open in the USA in February and the Toronto Open in Canada in April.

The win marked Khan's second career WISPA World Tour title, in her seventh final.

Beddoes Bursts Through

In Vancouver

Two successive stunning victories over higher-ranked Canadians have taken England's Emma Beddoes into her maiden WISPA  final at the Sun & Surf  Open at the Jericho Tennis Club in Vancouver, Canada.

The 21-year-old from Warwick, a student at Nottingham University, made her breakthrough in the quarter-finals when she twice came from behind to defeat experienced second seed Runa Reta.

Sixth seed Beddoes, a former British Junior champion, stepped up her game in the semi-finals to overcome Carolyn Russell, the No4 seed ranked more than 20 places higher in the world.

Beddoes will meet Latasha Khan in the final after the top seed from the USA battled back from 2-6 down in the second and 3-6 behind in the third to beat Canadian National champion Alana Miller, the third seed, 9-2, 9-6, 10-9 in 54 minutes.

arke Progresses In Vancouver

Celebrating her illustrious older brother Simon's 35th birthday in fine style, English qualifier Emma Parke battled to a notable victory in the first round of the Sun & Surf Jericho Squash Open when she upset No7 seed Karina Herrera Zuniga to claim an unexpected place in the quarter-finals.

The 33-year-old from Yorkshire, now a PE teacher in Vancouver, beat the Mexican 3/1 and will now face top seed Latasha Khan for a place in the semi-finals. Khan, the seven-times US national champion from Seattle, dismissed Canada's Rebecca Hazell.

There was a disappointing return to WISPA Tour action after almost two years for Khan's sister, however, when qualifier Shabana Khan went down in straight games to Canada's No3 seed Alana Miller. Miller, in her first WISPA event since securing a surprise silver medal in the Pan American Games last month in Brazil, will face compatriot Tara Mullins in the next round.
