Stacey's Swiss Nightmare

13-Mar:
Top Seeds Take
Swiss Titles

Canada's Shahier Razik and England's Dominique Lloyd-Walter both justified their top seedings by claiming the Swiss Open titles with straight game victories over Philip Barker and Lauren Briggs, respectively.

12-Mar:

Top Seeds
Take On French

Top seeds Shahier Razik and Philip Barker both beat French opposition in the semi-finals, as Laurent Elriani and Julien Balbo beat yesterday's qualifying heroes in the morning quarter-finals but failed to make and impression on Razik and Barker in the evening's semi-finals.

The women's event will see an all-English final, again between the top seeds, Dominique Lloyd-Walter meets Lauren Briggs.

11-Mar:
Tenant & Hassaan Swoop Into Swiss Open Quarters

Qualifiers Romain Tenant and Ahmed Mohsen Hassaan swept through two rounds of the Sigma Swiss Open  to reach the quarter-finals of the 32nd staging of the event in Geneva.

Tenant made his breakthrough in the first round when he overcame the in-form Englishman Stacey Ross, the third seed, 11-7 10-11 11-6 3-11 11-8. The Frenchman made it to the last eight after beating fellow qualifier Amr Mansi, an Egyptian, 11-8 11-9 3-11 11-9.

Egyptian Hassaan made his unexpected progress after victories over a pair of Hungarians - first beating 11th seed Marton Szaboky 11-5 11-7 11-3, then removing 7th seed Mark Krajcsak 11-8 6-11 11-8 8-11 11-8.

In the women's event, two unseeded players also pulled off significant upsets: Emma Beddoes despatched fellow English countrywoman Kirsty McPhee, the fifth seed, 9-3 9-6 9-4, while Egypt's Hend Osama overcame England's eighth seed Georgina Stoker 9-2 9-1 9-0.

Third seed Stacey Ross was not destined to do well in this Swiss Open ...

Hi Fram,

Thought you may want to hear about my attempt to travel the relatively short distance from London to Geneva via Paris yesterday.

My flight was due to leave at 8.45 which meant a 5 am start for me. It was delayed by an hour, no big deal, but meant I would miss my connection in Paris.

The next three flights were cancelled. I queued for close to two hours to change my ticket to the last remaining flight at 7pm. I thought about getting the train but was assured by Air France that this flight would definitely leave on time. I waited six hours for the flight to be cancelled with ten mins to go.

I was offered a hotel for the night and a one pm flight the next day which meant I would miss my match at 2.15. After much discussion I was put on a 7am flight. The bus for the hotel wasn't due till 9.30 so I tried to get a cab but no one knew where it was. The bus journey to the hotel, the Disneyland Paris, was AN HOUR away.

I arrived along with two other buses full of people checking in at the same time, and joined the end of the 200+ queue. 90 minutes later at midnight I reached the front to be told no shuttle in the morning.

Got up at 4.15 am to get to the airport. Arrived with 20mins to go but at the wrong terminal. I sprinted half a mile, was last person on.

Arrived in Geneva 24hrs late. Air France had then lost my bags. Got to the club borrowed a racket and some shoes and lost three two.
