Daryl's Diary #2 ...
So
the semis commenced last night with Borja winning the first 3-0 against
Stacey although the first 2 games could have gone either way. Then Tarek
beat myself, 3-1. I felt I played pretty well but he just played at the
top of his game and was attacking everything he could which was so
effective on the glass court.
Today was the final of what has been a superbly run tournament. I cannot
stress enough how well Dimitris and his team have run the event, with TV
there today, a DJ all week to put on some music in between games, a
Porsche and BMW behind t he court (not for the winner and runners up prizes
apparently?!) and looking after the players extremely well.
The final started and people wondered whether Tarek's tough run and his
young age would be a factor in the match. The first few points he looked a
bit slower than yesterday (so still rapid!) and Borja found his length and
good movement straight away. At 8-4 Tarek produced some fine rallies and
winners and brought the score back to 7-8, but a lucky backwall nick for
Borja stopped the run, and Borja finished with some great touch drops to
finish the first 11-8.
The
second started in similar fashion with some long even rallies, not tedious
rallying because both players were moving each other out of position, but
these 2 players are very good movers so a lot was being retrieved. At 8-3
you sensed Borja was going to close out the game and that would be it, but
credit to Tarek he is gutsy as well as talented and he produced some good
holds and flicks which Borja didn't read.
Coupled
with a few mistakes from Borja, Tarek found himself 10-9 game ball up. You
don't win 10 out of 11 PSA finals without a good reason, and Borja showed
all his experience to save game ball and push to win the game on a
tie-break.
In the third Borja got off to a flyer and you could see Tarek was a bit
despondent and tired finding himself 2-0 down when it could have been 1-1.
The game finished 11-5, and a deserving Borja picked up another tour title
to add to his collection.

DRAW & RESULTS
Hi everybody ,
On my behalf I would like to thank and give all the credits for the
success of the tournament to Mr Dimitris Issaris ,the man who worked so
hard for this.
In a country that is so difficult to promote squash he did the best he
could for this year and I am sure he'll give his best again for the next.
THANK YOU DIMITRIS, all the credits to you.
Also a big thanks to you, the players who represented squash and PSA in
the best way. All of you were very helpful with your attitude and
presence. I've never seen such a amazing group of personalities and polite
players in my entire career so far. I am proud to be a PSA member along
with them.
Thank you Anna and all the PSA office and its girls for their great
co-operation and also to Steve Cubbins and Daryl for their great support
to the tournament and the reports feed.
See you all back next year and on the tour !
Kind regards,
Petros
I would like to draw your attention in
order to THANK YOU PETROS TZAMALOUKAS for his support all these years and
specially on the last PSA Squash Tournament.
Petros is a value for the squash in Greece because he works hard and gives
a lot of personal time. On the last tournament we co-operate very closed
in order to get all the details on time and his experience was very very
helpful
Once again thank you Petros and looking forward to see you next year in a
bigger tournament ...

Daryl's Diary #1...
The
Land of the Gods are treating us well. The 5 star hotel is every bit as
nice as it looks on the website. The weather today is bright sunshine and
fairly hot, as you would expect. The organisation here has been spot on
with shuttles to and from the airport, a superb glass court in the Grand
Ballroom which makes the tournament feel more like a super series than a 1
star.
Dimitrias
has done a great job in putting an A grade tournament alongside the PSA
one as he only has one court plus the glass court so not much scheduling
time, and also presented the players with welcome packs full of assorted
'goodies'.
The
qualifying took place all day yesterday with some tough last round matches
resulting in Yann Perrin, local boy Fabian Kalaitzis, young Tarek Momen
and Dave Barnett progressing.
The matches start at 3.30 today, and after watching Peter Nicol a couple
of days ago the boys haven't stopped talking about it and if that doesn't
inspire you to want to get on court and give 200% I don't know what will.
So there should be some hard fought matches and hopefully will be able to
update you again tomorrow.
