28-Sep-05:
Tranfield to retire
from World Tour

Jenny Tranfield, the current world number eleven, has announced her retirement from the WISPA world tour, effective from after next month's British Open.

After 10 years of professional squash the 30-year-old from Milton Keynes will pursue a career in sport psychology.

Tranfield, the 1998 World University Champion, achieved 11 WISPA tour titles, numerous international caps, a top 8 world ranking as well as receiving a First Class honours degree and Ph.D from Loughborough University.

In addition, she has made a significant contribution to the women’s game through her membership of the WISPA board.

“I intend to fulfil my WISPA playing commitments until November and hope to continue to play in the UK thereafter.

"I would like to thank all those people who have supported me over the years. Squash has been a massive part of my life and has provided me with some unforgettable experiences.

"Now I feel it’s the right time for me to move on to the next phase."

Doctor Jenny ...
Jenny will be using her Doctorate in Sports Psychology in her own career, and is still available to give advice to readers in the SquashSite Clinic ...

Yorkshire-born Tranfield has enjoyed an illustrious squash career which includes British National Junior titles at U14 and U16, British Junior Open titles at U16 and U19, and the World Universities title in her second appearance in the final. She also boasts a formidable WISPA record, having only lost in four of her 15 final appearances since her first in March 1997.

Her last and biggest WISPA success was in the Las Vegas Bright Lights Open last May, and she reached the semi-final of the National Championships in February.
