#9: Rachael Grinham                             FULL WISPA PROFILE

Who lit your squash spark? My parents. Basically I grew up at the squash club, was playing as soon as I could walk and hold a racket, and loved it so much that I spent every spare minute I could there as a kid... unfortunately can't say the same thing now! Still love it of course, but my time around squash courts is now definitely limited to what's necessary as a professional player.
Always squash, or could you have competed in another sport? When I was younger I played a variety of sports but squash was always my favourite. And since I decided to take it up professionally there hasn't really been any time to play other sports.
What do you hate most about training? I actually kinda enjoy training these days, but I do my own thing so I would never do any training that I hated anyway. But would have to say the sessions I least look forward to would be boring fitness sessions.
The best thing about being an international player? I love that my job is something that I love doing, and on top of that I get to travel the world doing it, and see places that most people would never in their whole lives get the chance to see.
Your favourite place to play events? I think Malaysia. It's almost like a second home because we've had so many events there. The food is good, shopping is good, weather is good (love those occasional afternoon thunderstorms too!), foot reflexology on the street is good, wireless internet available everywhere !! When you add everything up I think I would have to say I look forward to going to Malaysia the most. Also like tournaments at beach resorts like Hurghada & Jamaica.
Filling in time before matches? Usually listening to music while doing some sort of Japanese puzzle.
Squash superstitions? Not very superstitious, but if I can help it I try to keep the same daily routine throughout a tournament if I'm winning (same meals at same restaurants, etc.) I figure while it's working why change it...
The worst thing about travelling? Jetlag.
Your travelling entertainment provider? Internet if available, iPod, laptop, dvds, puzzle books.

Pizza or pasta? Most of the time neither cos I'm one of those low-carb eaters, but every now and then I can't resist the urge to go for pizza... not into pasta at all.
Tea or coffee? Coffee. Can't function without it.
Fruit or chocolate? Chocolate of course.
Just finished reading? It was a while ago now but last book I completely read would have to be a Dan Brown novel, that Antarctica one, Deception Point.
The album you listen to most? Can't remember the last time I listened to an actual album, more like which playlist on the iPod do I listen to most ??... and lately that's probably the 80's.
How many texts sent each day? Sometimes none, sometimes 20... depends really. Probably send most of my texts when I'm bored and stuck in a queue or a waiting room...
Sporting event you would most like to go to? The Olympics - as part of the Australian Squash Team!
Dinner with any sports person past or present? Well that's limited to the very few sports people I know of... maybe Andy Roddick - he's kinda cute and seems to have a really fun personality, I'm sure he'd keep anyone amused during dinner.
Glass half full or half empty? I don't really know, depends on the situation I guess. I wouldn't call myself a pessimist but most of the time I like to at least be prepared for the worst so that I'm not disappointed. Does that make me a glass half-empty person?
Your life so far, one thing you would change? I wouldn't have permed my short hair when I was 12. Really wasn't a good look.
Plans for the future? Don't really make future plans, so many things have happened in my life already that I would never have imagined planning... I believe what is meant to happen will happen, so no need for plans!
