Who lit your squash
spark? |
My
father played squash when I was growing up. I was in the junior
program at a big club and found squash really fun. I had a great
mentor when I was in high school, a B player from the club who
really motivated me and helped me believe in myself. |
|
Always squash, or
could you have competed in another sport? |
I
played provincial level field hockey when I was in high school. I
have also played pretty much every sport, but I love squash the
most. |
|
What do you hate
most about training? |
Injuries – usually sprained ankles in my case. |
|
The best thing
about being an international player? |
I
find it fun and exciting to travel and play in front of big crowds. |
|
Your favourite
place to play events? |
I
like to play events in any city or country where I have never been
before. |
|
Filling in time
before matches? |
For
me, reading is the best thing to do to spend time before a big
match. It is entertaining, but will not tire me out. I also like to
sightsee and see some of the city I am playing in, but it is easy to
get tired doing this so I need to be careful. |
|
Squash
superstitions? |
None.
|
|
The worst thing
about travelling? |
Flight delays are the biggest challenge to travelling because they
are hard to plan for and avoid. |
|
Your travelling
entertainment provider? |
I
like to have a good book and lots of magazines. |
|
Pizza or pasta? |
I
generally don't eat either pizza or pasta, but it's hard to top a
hot cheesy pizza for a treat. I always order vegetarian ideally with
a thin whole wheat crust and lots of cheese. |
|
Tea or coffee? |
I
drink absurd quantities of decaf coffee. Decaf Americano with skim
milk and sweetener is my drink of choice. I went caffeine free on
August 1, 2005 and have felt much better since. I am also a big fan
of diet Pepsi, (caffeine free of course). |
|
Fruit or chocolate? |
I eat
fruit all the time. For special occasions I like to bake pies.
Apple, pumpkin, and strawberry/rhubarb are my favourites. |
|
Just finished
reading? |
Heat
by Bill Buford. It is a fabulous non-fiction account of the author
who undertakes an apprenticeship to become an Italian chef. The book
is about food, cooking, the restaurant industry and life in a
kitchen. Well worth reading if you love food. I am currently reading
Winning Ugly by Brad Gilbert. It's about mental toughness in tennis.
|
|
The album you
listen to most? |
I
don't have a favorite album. |
|
How many texts sent
each day? |
3.
Most Canadians just pick up the phone and call. |
|
Sporting event you
would most like to go to? |
Game
7 of the Stanley Cup playoffs or maybe the Superbowl. |
|
Dinner with any
sports person past or present? |
Lance
Armstrong. |
|
Glass half full or
half empty? |
¾
full. |
|
Your life so far,
one thing you would change? |
I
would get better squash coaching starting from a younger age and
play more WISPA tournaments. |
|
Plans for the
future? |
I
plan to continue working hard, playing hard and living life to the
fullest. |
