27-Apr, Final:
Blake wins second
WISPA title in Zwolle
Tommy Berden reports

Aisling Blake claimed the first edition of the Eurosafe Solutions Zwolle Open 2008 after a comprehensive win over third seeded Orla Noom.

The 26-year old from Dublin, who is based in Amsterdam to train under the guidance of Liz Irving, started off at a furious pace against the Dutch player, who only recently returned to competitive action after a four month injury lay-off. The world number 33 dominated play from the word go and never let her 22-year old opponent, ranked two places lower on the world rankings, settle into the match.

After losing the first game quickly, Noom managed to pressurize her opponent for parts of the second game, but still fell short at the finish line. The third game was straight forward as the number two seed from Ireland stepped up the pace to storm home to a 9-0, 9-6, 9-0 score line to clinch her second WISPA Tour title of her career.

26-Apr, Semis:
Noom and Blake in Zwolle climax
Tommy Berden reports

Orla Noom and Aisling Blake will contest the final of the Eurosafe Solutions Zwolle Open 2008 after both players recorded 3-0 victories in today’s semi finals.

The 22-year old Noom, seeded third during the WISPA Tour 4 championship in the city of Zwolle, showed no signs of her injury woes that kept her out of action for over four months in her match against compatriot Dagmar Vermeulen. The world number 35 dominated the match against the ‘local hero’ from start to finish, only losing eight points in the process: 9-0, 9-3 and 9-5.

Her opponent in tomorrow’s final, Aisling Blake, had to work a little harder to reach her fifth WISPA Tour final. The number two seed from Ireland, however, still prevailed in straight games over Vicky Hynes from England: 9-7, 9-3 and 9-6.

Judging on ranking (Blake is ranked 33) and current form tomorrow’s final should be well worth watching!

Dutch finalist guaranteed
Tommy Berden reports

Orla Noom moved into the semi finals of the Eurosafe Solutions Zwolle Open 2008 after she put on an impressive display against Milja Dorenbos. The 22-year old, who only recently returned back to competitive action after four months of injury, was ruthless in her match against her compatriot and only needed 22 minutes to storm home to a 9-3, 9-1, 9-0 victory.

The citizen of Hoofddorp, classed as ‘not fit enough’ to compete in next week’s European Team Championships in Amsterdam, will now face her replacement in the national team, Dagmar Vermeulen. The 32-year old from Zwolle, playing in front of a noisy home crowd, took almost one hour to beat ‘giant killer’ Olga Ertlova from the Czech Republic in four games: 6-9, 9-3, 9-3, 9-4.

The bottom half of the draw features one expected and one unexpected semi finalist. Number two seed Aisling Blake once again survived a tough opening game against young Dutch girl Milou van der Heijden, before accelerating to a different level in game two and three: 9-6, 9-0 and 9-1. In tonight’s semi final the Irish world number 33 will face Vicky Hynes from England. The fifth seeded player only needed to work for one game against her opponent Karen Kronemeyer. After losing the first game (6-9), the third seeded Dutch player forfeited the match due to illness, giving Hynes an easy passage to the final four:

Dutch lead the way as top seed Chuah crashes out
Tommy Berden reports

A large Dutch contingent of players pleased the home crowd with a solid and successful performance during the first round of the Eurosafe Solutions Zwolle Open 2008.

No more than five Dutch players succeeded to qualify for the quarter finals during the $4,000 WISPA Tour 4 championship in Zwolle, the Netherlands. Milja Dorenbos led the way with an impressive four game win over the talented Lauren Selby from England, after which Karen Kronemeyer saw off her compatriot Lisa Kho, also in four games.

The three other Dutch players to move into the last eight are Dagmar Vermeulen, Orla Noom and Milou van der Heijden, all of whom won in straight games.

Meanwhile the only and biggest shock of the day came when Olga Ertlova took out the tournament’s top seed Tricia Chuah. The Czech qualifier came from one game down to beat the world’s number 31, while on the adjacent court the number two seed Aisling Blake survived a tough first game against Lucie Fialova, before storming home to victory. The last quarter finalist is Vicky Hynes. The English girl dispatched Linda Hruzikova in three.
