Day TWO - Quarters:

More upsets and survivals in the Quarter finals this evening. Biggest upset when 6th seed Ooi Kah Yan MAS defeated the 4th seeded Jessica Turnbull AUS 3-1.

A big battle between compatriots Ryan Pasqual & Elvinn Keo of Malaysia took it to 5 games with Keo coming out the winner in 52 minutes.

But the match of the evening would no doubt be the Battle of the Brotherís with Thomas & Nicholas Calvert of Australia, with younger brother Nicholas emerging the victor 12-10 in the 5th. Each game averaged 15 minutes, with the total match going for 78 minutes.

Round Two

Round two saw the top 8 players begin their #SMO2018 campaign, with some upsets along the way.

Unfortunately due to an injury sustained overnight the No.2 Seed Darren Rahul Pragasam was forced to withdraw before he had a chance to play.

Former world Champion Cassie Thomas went up against the No.1 Seed Christine Nunn, and Nunn had the upper hand over the former world champion.

The No. 5 Seed Taylor Flavell  also went down to No. 8 Seed Aika Azman and New Zealand Junior Kaitlyn Watts lost out to Anna Serme.

Unseeded Frenchman Christophe Andre defeated the No.8 Seed Lachlan Coxsedge to progress through to the Quarter Finals, where a battle of the brothers will occur with wins for both Thomas & Nicholas Calvert.

Day ONE:

The first round of the 2018 Squash Melbourne Open has been completed, which saw the return of Professional squash to Moorabbin.

The crowd were entertained by 9 high class matches, including the return of former World Champion Cassie Thomas [nee Jackman] who showed her skills have not waned.

The highlight of the evening would be the match between Noellie Boden & Casey Jane Owen. The young Kiwi fought back bravely from 0-2 down against the experienced Boden to claim the first round win.

We are all now set to see the top 8 players in their first matches for Round two commencing from 10:00 am EST.
