TAQA Bankers Hall Club Pro Am 2013
24-27 Jan, Calgary, Canada, $10k
Great final in Stampede City
Bob Ballinger reports

A great conclusion to another all around amazing tournament here at Bankers Hall Club in the Stampede city of Calgary which saw top seed Leo Au of Hong Kong produce a thrilling 3/2 victory over his unseeded opponent Raphael Kandra from Germany.

In front another standing room only crowd Au produced a gritty at times display of squash which saw the match ebb and flow with each player seemingly taking control only to have it removed from them.

Despite the fact that four of the five games scorewise were not close do not be fooled as the rallies were long with great exchanges by both players using all areas of the court in particular each of the showcasing their amazing hands and front court game. After 74 minutes of great all around squash Au prevailed 11/5, 9/11, 4/11, 11/5, 11/3.

So another PSA event and amateur event is over for another year. Great crowds throughout the week for both components of the tournament simply enhanced what this event has evolved to become over the years.

We look forward to January 2014 and doing it all over again!

Squash as usual in Stampede City
Bob Ballinger reports

Great news out of Calgary in early December is that the long history of the Bankers Hall Club Pro Am PSA event will in fact continue this year despite losing long time title sponsor Talisman Energy in early November.

It was looking like we would have a year without PSA squash here but at virtually the midnight hour a new title sponsor appeared and it’s going to be PSA squash as usual here in the Stampede city!

We are thrilled to announce that TAQA has come on board for the 2013 event and it will be run at the same PSA level as years past. Continuing the great tradition here is also the amateur component of the tournament which has become arguably the most popular tournament anywhere as evidenced by the fact that it was sold out with 175 entries (with another 50 on a wait list to get in) within four hours of entries being …..a full 6 weeks before the tournament begins.

Past champions of the PSA event include Borja Golan, Cameron Pilley, Tommy Berden, Matthew Guiffre, Daryl Selby, Shahier Razik, Arturo Salazar (two times), and Chris Simpson (defending two time champion).

Others to have played this event over the years but unable to win the tournament include Peter Barker, Omar Mossad, Simon Rosner, Alastair Walker, Miguel Rodriguez, Alan Clyne, Jonathan Kemp, Campbell Grayson, and Martin Knight to name only just a few!
