BC Open 2010
05-07 Nov, Vancouver, Canada, $10k
Simpson takes the title at Jericho
Shauna Flath reports

Wow! What a fantastic match Chris Simpson comes out on top winning the BC Honda Dealers Open 11-8 in the 4th. Chris played steady and strong and in the end prevailed over James who put up a valiant effort after having a fantastic week of squash.

“I am very pleased with how I played, " said Chris. "It has been a long time since I have been the #1 seed and I have been nervous all week as crazy as that sounds”

“To finish it off from the very first match of the tournament and to close it out is a fantastic feeling.”

All-English final in Vancouver

Great semi final action tonight! reports Shauna Flath.

Chris Simpson has been here every year we host a PSA and this was our club’s fifth PSA. It is fantastic to see how he has grown as a player and a splendid match in prospect with compatriot and 4th seed James Snell.

James' against Jan Koukal match was brilliant! Fast, solid relentless comes off the court with his biggest win to date. All England final looking forward to it! The crowd loves it!

"It is my best win to date," said James. "I went in relaxed and the key for me was to keep up the pace of being fast and not letting the games go at a slow pace”

"I am looking forward to tomorrow against Chris. I lost to him at Nationals so I am looking forward to the match tomorrow."

English dominate BC Quarters

Andrew McDougall of Calgary continued his strong play at the B.C. Honda Dealers Open men’s professional squash tournament Friday pushing fourth seed James Snell of England to the five-game limit in his quarterfinal.

The competition hosted by the Jericho Tennis Club is the fifth stop on the Canadian circuit and also a stop on the men’s Professional Squash Association (PSA) tour.

Snell finally took the hour-long match 11-5, 11-7, 3-11, 7-11, 11-4. It was the second night in a row McDougall went the distance. He needed five games to eliminate Matthew Serediak of Saskatoon on Thursday.

“I was kind of surprised to come back after dropping the first two games,” said McDougall. “James was definitely in his comfort zone and I needed to do something to make him guess a bit more. I mixed up my shots a bit more and that seemed to work. But in the fifth he just played better than me.”

It’s been a good fall season for McDougall who reached his first career pro semifinal last month and has advanced to the quarters at the last two pro tournaments.

“I’m definitely playing a lot better,” said McDougall. “I feel I understand the game a lot more.”

Canada’s other two quarterfinalists were also eliminated. Tyler Hamilton of Dundas, Ont., fell to second-seed Jan Koukal of the Czech Republic 11-9, 11-6, 11-5 and third seed Joe Lee of England beat Justin Todd of 11-1, 11-9, 14-12.

Top-seed Chris Simpson of England defeated compatriot Lewis Walters 11-7, 9-11, 11-5,11-8 in the other quarterfinal. The semis are on Saturday and the final on Sunday.
