  British Open
  Masters 2011

  08-12 June, Nottingham

Masters arrive in Nottingham

Held as a stand-alone event this year, the British Open Masters kicks off this afternoon at Nottingham Squash Club.

Not too many matches today (it gets hectic tomorrow), but naturally the best was saved until the end ... the final match on court was the only 3-2 of the day as Durham's Neil Harrison came back from 1-2 and 0-3 down to Nottingham's own Clive Walters (yes, Lewis's dad).

"I was getting battered up to the start of the fourth," said a relieved Harrison, whose legendary on court banter was much in evidence throughout.

"He's cruising now," he commented as Walters went 3-0 up in the fourth, then "I hope that's a sign of the future," as his opponent tinned on the next point.

As it happened, it was.

"He was killing me at the front and my legs were like jelly, I had nothing in the tank. But then he stopped dropping it for some reason, and I managed to get back into it, but I still don't really know how I managed to win that."

It was 9-0 in the fifth, so he must have been doing something right, but it was definitely a scare for Harrison, a 9/16 seed.

It the last sixteens on Thursday, should be some crackers ...
