Carcassonne Comeback 2010
12-16 May, Carcassonne, France, $5k
16-May, Final:
Line lifts Carcassonne title
John Catlow reports

The girls had a great game in front of 80 enthralled spectators who enjoyed every minute of this 60 minute final.

Orla started smartly and built up a 2,3 point lead before taking the first 11/6 against Line who was struggling to get out of the starting blocks.

Off to a 3/0 start in the second Line looked far more convincing in the second game but lost her way and found herself 7/5 down before taking the game 11/8. Line cruised to a 6/2 lead in the third but Orla fought back to 7/8 before Line closed at 11/7.

The fourth was a beauty and the tension rose as the girls mixed brilliant play and silly errors. At 7/7 Orla gave it her all and some wonderful winners brought her home 11/8.

Great squash in the fifth as well but it was Line who took control of the game to ease in 11/4.

Great final and great tournament. Hope they’ll “ COME BACK”.

14-May, Round One:
Three French through in Carcassonne

John Catlow reports

The four top seeds are through without too much difficulty and so is Cyrielle Peltier, the young French qualifier who dominated sixth seed Josefa Bertilsson.

Laura Pomportes lost the first game 11/2 before turning the tables on seventh seed Anna-Carin Forstadius, and Célia Allamargot got over her first game nerves to beat the promising Julia Lecoq.

The match between Gaby Schmohl and Coline Aumard was perhaps the most uncertain but Gaby got home 3/0 with method. She could give Orla Noom a hard game tomorrow morning but I still see the top 4 seeds getting through to the semis.

Must be the first time we’ve had 3 French girls in the quarters at Carcassonne ...
