The Final Edition                   The Finals

The final day in Porto was an intense day again with very intense matches that inspired the audience of the Monte Aventino and Solinca Dragão.
Each Draws has generated a new European Champions that we give immediately congratulations.

I inform you some results and Champions.

Female +35 - The Netherlands Dagmar Vermeulen is the European Champion who won the German Melanie Kreisel by 3-1. It was a much disputed match in which the Dutch have always tried to control it. In the third game since losing 2-0 Melanie risking more determined to win a little more, but Dagmar in the fourth and final game, forced the pace and turned everything in her favor.

+35 Male - The Champion is the French Renan Lavigne who beat the German Stefan Leifets by 3-2 in a match played until the last second. Renan began by winning the first two games, but was surprised by the commitment and determination of Stefan in the next two games. In the fifth game, the balance was constant and there is doubt, I tell you that the 11 / 9, it not shows the reality of the effort, intensity and courage of these two athletes!
Renan was courage in the last points or Stefan could certainly continue to turn the match in his favor.

It was certainly a great way to end the Event and thus the National Squash lovers could watch a great match and tournament.

In conclusion I say to you that Portugal had never really embraced such a large and important competition of Squash.

The European Squash Masters 2011 in Portugal was made possible by the National Squash Federation and also because the European Squash Federation believe in our organizational capabilities.

It was claimed a success by all present. Athletes, public, sponsors and the European Federation have left pass over in silence the fact. Everione in the prize-giving ceremony saw the Frenchman Renan Lavigne hearing on behalf of all state the above. As for the public, I can tell you that I had never seen the Dragon Solinca so full. By sponsors, have the presence of Mr. Vladimiro Feliz, Deputy Mayor of Porto and finally by the European Federation, hear the words of the Director of Events Mariann were sufficiently clear and honorable!

So my friends I can say to you that Portugal organized very well the European Squash Masters 2011 and thus ensure to everyone that we will do the same in the U19 Individual & Team Championships in 2012 that we have been awarded by the European Squash Federation.

To achieve this it is essential that the sponsors are not missing and that we continue to have the City Hall of Porto and Porto Lazer as partners.

While not end thanks to the National Federation of Squash in the persons of Dr. Bruno Dias, Dr. José Soares, Dr. Paulo Silva and José Aguiar, the Town Hall of Porto and the Port Company Municipal Recreation in the person of Eng. Vladimiro Feliz, to ESM 2011 Staff, volunteers, the audience of all days and all the athletes that made this event was great and deserved to them.

It's all for the city of Porto!

03-Sep, Day Three:

In the third day, again with a long and awful lot of matches at the highest level, the European Squash Masters 2011, provided all these great moments!

Unfortunately the Portuguese, did not in any of the Draws reach the semi-finals, but have enough to fight his opponents.

Solinca Dragon and the Monte Aventino, has provided the public that there is the indecision of where to stand and watch!

Highlighting matches with the Portuguese, Carlos Mendes and John Caiano, who were both, defeated by 3-1. We also have to mention that one of the semi-finals of +35 with the French Renan Lavigne and Italian Andrea Toricini was very emotional, despite the 3-0 final in favor of the French.

In the Draw of +40, the Spanish Jesus Souto had to undergo to reach the final. In the quarter-final played against and defeated Luis Neves and the semi-final Irish Edin Ryan!

I also take this opportunity to highlight the following semi-final, very emotional. In Draw +45 in Male, the Dutch Bea Dreu won by 3-1 the English Rina Eyna and will face English well Claire Baker who had just defeated his compatriot Mandy Akin 3-0.

Finally I say to you that everyone in the Monte Aventino at 17.30 h were amazed and delighted with the semi-finals in men's Draw +70 years.

In one of the semis, confronted the British John woodliffe and Lance Kinder. John won by 3-1 in a match of several games with advantages, with a playing time very close to 2 hours.

In the other, confronted the English John Preston and Irish Myron Evans. Myron won the 3-2 in a match also with various games in advantages of a time just around 2 hours. We came away impressed because we cannot forget that these younger athletes is 72! Tomorrow John and Myron Evans Woodliffe promise to create excellent moment for lovers of squash.

A challenge to all! Tomorrow go to Monte Aventino and Solinca Dragon, because the pass days made us a presage of great matches. Do not miss it!

It's all today for the city of Porto

02-Sep, Day Two:

Another crazy day with matches more balanced in all the Draws!
The European Masters Squash is red hot and now the Portuguese got very good results.

Spotlight on João Caiano. Today he secured the quarter-finals. Tomorrow, faces within the Finnish Anssi Määttänen +40.

Also naturally came out the winners French Renan Lavigne in the Draw of +35 and all other seeded 2 / 1 in any of the competitive Draws.

I assure you that all are amazed at the behavior, performance and quality of athletes from the Draws of +65 and +70. They are certainly very exemplars who can teach the younger ones.

As for the public, I thank you for your presence and what I see in the pictures, the Monte Aventino and the Solinca Dragão has been completely full.

It's all now from the city of Porto.
