Savcor Finnish Open 2010
08-14 Feb, Mikkeli, Finland $10k
14-Feb, Final
Olli Tuominen retains Finnish title

Olli Tuominen took his third Finnish Open title in a row by defeating Henrik Mustonen in 26 minutes.

Tuominen was well prepared for the match and played the best squash of the whole week. He was clearly following a pattern which he knew would work against Mustonen. When this pattern proved to be the right one there was not much Mustonen could do.

The croud was delighted to see Tuominen in such good form in this final that for the first time ever was refereed in Finnish.

14-Feb, Semis:
All Finnish final in Mikkeli

For the first time ever there will be an all Finnish final at the Savcor Finnish Open. The defending champion Olli Tuominen will meet his young rival Henrik Mustonen.

In the semis Olli Tuominen defeated Bradley Hindle 3-0 and was never in any real danger. The first two games came home quite easyly. The third was going the same way, but at 9-5 Tuominen made a couple of mistakes and Hindle managed to level the score at 10 all having saved two matcballs. That was the closest he got as Tuominen took the needed two points and the match.

"I ws a little unfocused and tried to cut the third game short, but that ended in mistakes. Tomorrow I will go flat out", said Tuominen.

In the other semi Henrik Mustonen beat Egypts Wael Farag, who had fought his way from the qualification. Mustonen kept the pace up and was moving well. Farag never really came to threaten Mustonen who kept the lead all through the match.

"My pace seemed to be right and I managed to keep Wael moving. It didn't came easily, as Wael is such a strong player" was Mustonen's comment.

09-Feb:
Top seeded qualifiers out

Top seeds Neil Cordell and Alejandro Garbi Caro were knocked out of the qualification in today's qualifying finals in Mikkeli. Unseeded Olivier Pett showed some excellent squash and never gave Neil Cordell a chance to get into the match. Pett will meet Kristian Frost Olesen from Denmark in the first round. Garbi came a lot closer to victory in his match. Nielsen had to save two matchballs before winning 14-12 in the fifth. He will now meet Bradley Hindle in the frost round.

Egypt's Wael Farag proved too strong for Sammy Chambers. Apart from the first part of the second game Farag was always in charge and didn't look threatened at any time. The fourth qualifier is Alex Ingham, who defeated Mick Biggs in straight games. Farag will meet Jaymie Haycocks and Ingham local star Henrik Mustonen.
