Hewitt and DiMauro win
world squash doubles title

Canadians delighted with SF success

Stephanie Hewitt and Jessica DiMauro of Toronto won the women’s world doubles squash title this past weekend in San Francisco.

Hewitt and DiMauro defeated Fiona Geaves and Suzie Pierrepont of England in the championship final on Sunday 15-6, 6-15, 15-13, 15-12. Canadians Marci Rier and Miranda Ranieri were eliminated in the first round losing a marathon match to Narelle Krizak and Natarsha Mcelhinny of Australia 16-17, 15-10, 17-15, 15-13.

In the men’s doubles final, Ben Gould and Paul Price of Australia defeated John Russell and Clive Leach of England in four games.

Two Canadian pairs were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Mike Pirnak and James Hewitt lost to the Australian champions while Viktor Berg and Gary Waite fell to the Preston Quick and Whitten Morris of the U.S.

The other two Canadian teams were ousted in the round of 16. Mike Leckie and Tim Loat were also eliminated by the winning Australians and Tyler Millard and Adrian Griffin lost to Morris Clothier and Greg Park of the U.S.
