Feb 2011:
Tamil Nadu shines in the 34th National Games,
Dhanbad ,takes 5 out of 8 medals in Squash Tournament
The 34th National Games kicked off in the Dhanbad from the 12th February,2011. The Finals of the squash tournament took place at the court near the Golf Ground.

Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu (TN) & Aparajitha Balamurukan (TN) won the gold medals in the Men’s and Women’s Game respectively of the Squash tournament which was introduced in 34th National Games for the first time.

In the women’s finals, Arajitha, student of church park school in Chennai, the second seed of the tournament upsets the top seed Anwesha Reddy (TN) in the interesting five setter match.

Arajitha from 2 games and a match point down came back strongly and played very confidently and left her opponent Anwesha clueless. On the other hand Anwesha put under pressure by her opponent played simple shots into the tin.

This led to a continuous boost of confidence to Arijtha and she finished of the match in style with her first ever gold at National Games.

In the Men’s final, it was Harinder playing against Ravi. Harinder looked very confident from the start and showcased a perfect game. His opponent Ravi trying his level best pulled off the second set, but his opponent seemed to be a bit too tough for him.

This was the first time for Harinder, a first year student from Loyla college at Chennai , to win and finish off the game in a tough four setter match.

Women’s
Aparajitha Balamurukan (2) bt Anwesha Reddy (1)
         3-11, 2-11, 13-11, 11-5, 11-7
