24-Jun-09:
Saudi Squash Team take on the UK

In July the Saudi Arabian National Squash Team will be taking on the best players from England and Wales as part of the Saudi/British Sports Co-operation Programme.

The programme was set up in 1987 by the British and Saudi Governments with the aim of creating closer ties between our two nations; it also gives the opportunities for a cultural exchange between two sets of young athletes who wouldn’t normally get a chance to interact and compete with each other which is important taking into account the current world situation.

The programme has supported over 70 sports, including Football, Tennis, Golf and Squash, which has been in the programme for 12 years.

The UK has sent four squash teams to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Al-Khobah, Taif, Jeddah and Riyadh, unfortunately one trip was cancelled due to the war in Iraq.

Samer Al-Khateeb & Mike Harris"This is the 6th visit to the UK by the Saudi Arabian Squash Team and the most exciting tour so far.

"The Saudis will be playing Test Matches against Wales and the England Junior Teams plus they’ll get an opportunity to play against some of the best club teams in England."
