April 2010:
Squash-a-Mile!
Squash fans around the UK lent their support to Sport Relief by taking part in a one mile shuttle-run last month and the unofficial recorder holder has been unveiled as Alistair Gorrie from Aberdeen SRC with an impressive time of 7m 51 seconds.

The Squash-a-Mile! was introduced to offer a sterner test to the squash fraternity than a basic one mile run. It consists of a full mile (1.6km) shuttle-run between the front and back walls of a 9.75 metre squash court and equated to 165 lengths in total!

Many clubs around the UK arranged events around the concept and several thousands were raised for Sport Relief.

European Club Champions Aberdeen were particularly committed raising over £500 and involving over 25 members who each paid at least £5 for the pleasure of being timed over the distance. In fact, Gorrie arranged for 8 of them to ‘pace’ him for 20 lengths a time to assist him in his record attempt!

Selected times that have been sent are listed below:

7m 51   Alistair Gorrie
8m 02   Wes Cardno
8m 12   Jamie Jacobsen
8m 13   Chris Leiper
8m 13   Phil Nightingale
8m 13   Nick Wall
8m 19   Dave Thomson
8m 31   Matias Tuomi
8m 53   Tim Garner
9m 00   Martyn Ballands-Collins
9m 11   Lindsay Ackers
9m 16   Helen Cordiner
9m 32   Ben, Edward & Ivan (Jnrs)
9m 36   John Walsh
9m 50   Russell Sparshott
9m 54   Kathryn Johnstone
10m 26 Nick Wall (Jnr)

Alistair's Aberdeen Highlights:

* A strong turn out on Saturday, including the numerically challenged Bill Strachan and Gordon Keith - GREAT EFFORT GUYS.
* George Letts pedalling to 5 miles in near record time.
* Donnyman and Dods normal Saturday challenge, only this time the money going to Sport Relief.
* Alister Sinclair completing 200 lengths in 14minutes and donating his change box (totalled £136!!!).
* Helen Cordiner blistering her way to a very impressive 9:16.
* Rosey Leiper adapting to having to turn every 3seconds (don't worry you won't have to do this in the London Marathon).
* Paired efforts from Farmer, Kev Coll and Stephen Ross with Morven White and two of her friends.
* The Monitor lot turning out for two sessions and with Wes Cardno sitting second in the overall standings........
* ........... Second behind......... ME! 7:51 to beat guys!
