Waikato Open 2009, 02-03 May, Hamilton, New Zealand
Mixed fortunes for the top seeds
Gary Denvir reports

Joelle King has been crowned champion in the women's event, but Martin Knight has come unstuck in the title decider in the men's draw.

King, one of the rising stars of New Zealand squash, proved too good for former world number one Leilani Rorani in the final. The world number 47 dished out a squash lesson to her training partner, winning 11-3 11-5 11-2.

The men's final was a totally different prospect, with Knight and second seeded Campbell Grayson doing battle in a five game thriller. Twice, Knight fought back from a game down to force the epic duel into a fifth game decider. However, Grayson was not to be denied, holding his nerve to win the final game 11-7.
