Third seeds Jie and Pajares triumph in Sarawak
Finals
day of the 7th Malaysia Tour Squash Circuit 2016 in Sarawak
startedc with the all-Malaysian women's final between good
friends Rachel Arnold and Teh Min Jie, the second
and third seeds.
Arnold was making most of the unforced errors in the early
stages, but recovered to take a two-one lead. She lost that
control though, and with Teh Min Jie playing most of the winning
shots she went on to take the match in five and claim her first
PSA title..
After
surviving a 102-minute marathon yesterday, Spain's Iker
Pajeras took out the second seeded Chi Him Wong in 38
minutes in the men's final. Iker got the better of most of the
long rallies, forcing the errors from Wong as he collected his
third PSA title.
The prizes were given away by Y.B Fazzrudin Hj Abdul Rahman Ahli
Dewan Undangan Negeri N6 Tupong.

22 Dec, Semis:
Top seeds fall in the semis in Sarawak
It will be an all-Malaysian women's final in Sarawak after a
comfortable 3/0 win for Rachel Arnold and a
walkover for Teh Min Jie over top seed Sivasangari who
was unfortunately unable to play due to viral fever.
The match of the day was from 3rd seeded Spaniard Iker
Pajares who took 102 minutes to beat top seed Rex Hedrick in
five games.
Iker took the first game in 11/4 easily, but the second was the
highlight, it took 37 minutes for Iker to go two-nil up
13/11. was 2 games up. Rex upped the pace and made iker run
around the court, taking the third and fourth 11/4, 11/3.
In the decider Iker took the early lead, 7-1, a couple of
unforced errors made it 7-3 but then Iker finished off the match
11/3.
Meanwhile, the other semi final match saw Chi Him Wong
from Hong Kong beat Edmon Lopez in straight games.
21-Dec, Quarters:
Seeds through to semis in Sarawak
The top four seeds will contest the semi-finals of the last PSA
event of the year, but getting there was easier for some than
others.
Highlight of the men's matches was the clash between Iker
Pajares and Sanjay Singh. It was a close one with
Sanjay playing some great shots and Iker retrieving a lot. Iker
won the first game 11-7 with great control and was up 10-5
before Sanjay recovered to take the game 15-13. Iker won the 3rd
11-8 after being 7-0 up, but Sanjay played some great squash to
take the fourth 11-8 after being 8-6 down. In the fifth it was a
lot of retriving from Iker and some great shots from Sanjay but
eventually the higher seeded Spaniard took the match 11-8 after
69 minutes with a great counter drop.
He'll meet top seed Rex Hedrick for a place in the final,
while the other semi will be between second and fourth seeds
Chi Him Wong and Edmon Lopez after both won their
quarters in four games.
In the women's matches, Aika Azman came back to beat
Chan Yiwen after being 2-0 down and 11-10 match ball down in
the fifth. Aika showed great courage and fighting spirit to make
her come back and book her place in the semifinal. This match
was also a great boost for Chan Yi Wen as she will be competing
in the upcoming
British
Junior Open.
The all-Malaysian semi-finals will see Azman take on Rachel
Arnold while top seed Sivasangari Subramanian - also
headed for the BJO - faces Teh Min Jie.
