19-May, Quarters: Seeds assert in Sporta Quarters
All four quarter-finals went to the
seedings in Guatemala, but none of the eventual semi-finalists
had easy passages.
Having beaten top seed Marwan Elshorbagy in the opening round,
Peru's Diego Elias couldn't follow up as he lost out in four
games to eighth-seeded Mexican Cesar Salazar, and in the
semi-finals he'll meet Zahed Mohamed, the sixth seed who
needed all five games to get past Alfredo Avila.
Mazen Hesham was another Egyptian five-game winner as the
third seed came from 2-1 down to beat Steve Coppinger, setting
up a semi-final with second seed Borja Golan, winner of a
tough four-game encounter with Omar Abdel Meguid.
18-May, Round One: Houston finalists beaten in round
one
A
dramatic first round in Guatemala saw the finalists of last
week's $50k Houston Open both beaten - top seed Marwan
Elshorbagy, champion in Texas, fell in straight games to
world junior champion Diego Elias, while Mohamed
Abouelghar, seeded four here, lost out in four games to
Mexico's Alfredo Avila.
The
remaining six seeds all won through to the last eight, although
second seeded Spaniard Borja Golan needed all five games to get
past qualifier Arturo Salazar.
