It's a mighty
impressive venue is the Ahorn Sportpark. It's a public
facility which was built over 20 years ago thanks to the vision
of Heinz Nixdorf, and has been extended
significantly in the intervening years, capital expenditure so
far is upwards of €25 million (we'll be covering its history and
facilities in other articles).
On the eve of the event the Managing Director of the facility
Willie Lenz, along with committee members Andreas Dirkes
and Prof Dr Uwe Kern and tournament organisers
Andreas Preising and Norman Farthing met with WSF
President N Ramachandran to describe the centre with the
aid of a ten-minute video presentation.
"The people and youth of Paderborn are truly fortunate to this
wonderful sports arena," commented the WSF President, "it's hard
to believe it was built 20 years ago, it still looks brand new.
The private/public model it's built on is an example to any
community wishing to provide accessible sporting facilities for
its members."
Gifts were exchanged and Mr Ramachandran signed the centre's
Guest Book.
"On behalf of the WSF I thank the City and all the people for
hosting this World Team Championship," concluded Mr Ramachandran.
