Khan Captures Canadian Crown

US squash star Latasha Khan is celebrating her best year on the WISPA World Tour at the age of 36 after winning the Women's Sun & Surf Jericho Open crown in Vancouver, Canada.

Making her tenth Tour appearance this year, the seven-time US champion from Seattle took out two Canadians before reaching the final of the event in its fourth year at the Jericho Tennis Club.

The top seed's opponent was Italian Manuela Manetta, the fourth seed who recovered from two games down to overcome Dutch second seed Annelize Naudé in the semi-finals.

The 26-year-old from Parma battled with Khan for 54 minutes - but it was the tireless American who ultimately prevailed to record her 11-9, 10-12, 11-9, 14-12 victory, her second Sun & Surf success in three years.

Khan - ranked 29 in the world and the oldest player in the top 100 - now joins a distinguished group of six players who have won three WISPA titles this year.

"Latasha has a long history with the Sun and Surf tournament as her first visit here was when she was nine or so and won the Women’s C category," said Tournament Director Shauna Flath, the Head Squash Professional at Jericho Tennis Club. "Now she is a repeat WISPA champion here at the club. Manuela just fell short on a few rallies but it was a great match for the packed gallery."
