Maringa Park Open 2012
11-16 Sep, Maringa, Brazil, $5k
16-Sep, Final:
Eddie consigns Rafa to fourth runners-up spot in a row in his own back yard

England's Eddie Charlton claimed his second PSA title when he beat top seed and home favourite Rafael Alarcon 3-2 (13-11, 8-11, 11-5, 6-11,
11-6) in the final of the Maringa Perk Open in Brazil.

After the top two seeds came through a punishing schedule with the quarter and semi-finals being played on Saturday, it was Charlton who lasted the better in the early afternoon final, to collect his second title almost a year after his first success in the Czech Republic.

For Alarcon it's a fourth successive runners-up spot in Brazilian tournaments, having lost out in the finals in the Cerdil, Ponta Laguna and BH Opens since winning the Paraguay Open title in May.

"Obviously very happy not only to beat him but in his home country," explained the 24-year-old Nottingham man.

"I tried a few new things this summer, trained in America with Damon [Brown] which was extremely beneficial, spent some time with Natalie Grainger coaching/training which was also great and I must thank both those guys.

"I've spent time with Camps [David Campion] who has been a great help and support. I've spent time training in Pontefract under Malcolm [Willstrop] which has definitely contributed to this week's success. And also thanks to Fi [Geaves] for her continued support and work with me.

"It was a tough schedule, and yesterday part of the back wall shattered on the glass court so I had to play Manuel on the hottest court I have ever played on/seen. 3/1 in 80mins!

"Can't complain though ... Now to spend the day by the hotel pool and head over to Brasilia tomorrow morning!"

Top seeds to contest Maringa Park final

Top seeds Rafael Alarcon and Eddie Charlton won through to the final with two wins on a tough second day of the Maringa Park Open in Brazil, but the pair can't look forward to much of a rest with the final set for 13.00 on Sunday ...

Reached the semis after a 80 min match! Glad with the way I played :)! Have to recover now to be ready for tonight!
