Lee BEACHILL:
NEW BABY, NEW RESPONSIBILITIES
The
5th May will be a crucial date for Lee Beachill. The day he became a father
after Nicola, his partner, gave birth to a gorgeous Ben (I saw the picture)
after just short of 18 hours of labour that started at 4am when her waters
broke!
A long day that was for both of them!
I asked Lee what that birth meant for him:
“It just gives you a massive sense of responsibility. You don’t get that
during the pregnancy, or even when you get to hospital. It’s literally as
soon as he is there, and you see this tiny little thing in your hand and you
are responsible for it for the rest of your life.”
Lee assisted with the birth:
“I didn’t feel any sort of emotion during the process of birth, I was
completely amazed by the whole giving birth thing, I was completely
mesmerised. Initially, they took him away, checked that everything was
alright, so immediately my attention turned to Nicola, I was very concerned
about how she was, how she felt, she was still quite under a lot of
medication, and a little bit out of it.
“So
then I turned my whole attention to the baby, and I guess that’s when I felt
very emotional.”
And how did Lee cope with the 'new little person' arriving home?
“They
both got discharged the following afternoon, which was good as it meant that
everything was fine. So now, we’ve to get used to having a new born about.
“You find yourself wide awake just looking at him. If he makes a noise,
obviously you are quickly looking at him, checking what may be wrong, and if
he is not making a noise, you’re wondering why he is not making a noise! So
since he has been home, I don’t think I ever fallen into a deep sleep!
“It’s so exiting, it’s so new to start with, you don’t feel tired, and then
after 3 or 4 days, you realised that you HAVE to sleep! A couple of nights
ago, I was feeding him in the middle of the night, and I actually fell
asleep, and thought, Hmm, that’s not good, I have to get some sleep!
“Nicola has been very understanding about me coming here, and letting me
catch some sleep, but mostly, we have been taking turn. So far, it has been
great, he is changing everyday, and that’s why I’m not too happy being here
in these early stages, it’s all changing, it’s all different. I just look
forward to getting home.”
CONGRATULATIONS:
Writing this interview, I’ve got a smile on my face.
The love of this man for this baby was so moving, so simple, so tremendous,
so… fatherly…
From the bottom of my heart,
congratulations to you Lee,
and to your lovely lady ...
