 Le
Champion d’Espagne est âgé de 25 ans, et après avoir terminé ses
études, est entré dans le top 20 dès janvier 2006. Même si sa
technique n’est pas la plus impressionnante du circuit,
l’intelligence tactique de l’Espagnol, sa condition physique et
sa détermination en font un joueur redouté par les meilleurs.
Peter Nicol, dit Le Boss, l’un des plus grands joueurs de tous
les temps, a un jour dit de lui qu’il était l’un des joueurs qui
s’adaptait le plus rapidement au jeu de son adversaire…

J’avais 14 ans quand je suis venu la première fois à Paris. Nous
nous y sommes arrêtés alors que nous nous rendions au Dutch
Junior Open en voiture de Santiago à Amsterdam !!! Et mon
souvenir de Paris, c’est de lancer une balle de tennis du haut
de la Tour Eiffel, c’était génial…
La seule chose que je regrette, c’est que ma petite amie ne
puisse pas m’accompagner dans la « City of Love », mais mon but
en venant ici est de battre des joueurs meilleurs que moi pour
améliorer mon classement.
De nos jours, tous les tableaux sont difficiles, et celui-là ne
fait pas exception. Je joue Kemp au premier tour, et je sais que
cela va être un match difficile. Je vais me préparer pour ce
match et peut-être aussi pour les suivants…
Je pense que ce qui m’a toujours aidé dans ma carrière, c’est ma
constance et ma motivation. En ce qui concerne mes défauts, je
n’aurais pas assez de place sur cette page !!!!!
J’ai très envie de faire un bon tournoi, car je veux vraiment
arriver d’abord dans le top 16, puis le top 10, et je me battrai
jusqu’à ce que j’y parvienne. Au pire, je n’y arriverai pas,
mais le fait d’avoir tout donné pour y arriver suffira pour me
rendre heureux… »

The Spanish Champion is 25 years old, and after finishing his
studies has secured himself a well deserved place in the top 20
since January 2006. Although his technique is maybe not the most
impressive on the circuit, his tactical intelligence, his
fitness and his determination have made of him one of the most
dreaded players around.
The Boss even said about him, after playing him in Canary Wharf
three years ago, that Borja was one of the players who adapted
most quickly to the game of his opponent…
So, do you have memories about Paris ?
 First
time I went to Paris I was around 14 years old. We stopped there
on the way to play the Dutch Junior Open. We went by car from
Santiago to Amsterdam!!
The thing that I most remember from Paris is me throwing a
tennis ball from the top of the Eiffel Tower, beautiful!!
Paris is really nice, sadly I can’t come with my girlfriend to
the city of love, but the main thing is have a good tournament,
beating better players than me in the rankings
Your feelings about the draw ?
The PSA draws are always difficult and this is not an exception.
I have Jon Kemp in the first round and that is going to be a
very tough match. I will be ready for that one, and maybe for
the next ones …
How did you spend your summer ?
I took 15 days off after the French league finals (15th June),
then I did three weeks of training for Cairo, and now I'm doing
seven weeks' training with the good help of John Milton. The
last two weeks before French Open, I will train with Miguel
Rodriguez.
What are your goals for this season ?
I’m really motivated to have good tournaments and to get closer
to the top 16 and top 10. I won’t stop fighting to until I do
it, the worst could happen is to not reach my goal, but if you
give everything it's enough for me to be happy.
My strong points? Be regular and motivated. And my weakest
points are too many for the space of this interview!
A little sentence in French maybe ?
“Liberte, igualite y fraternite” I never had French at school…
